I like the word ritual more than I like the word habit. The word habit seemes steeped in dude bro productivity grindset a la atomic habits. So I prefer rituals.
Good Rituals
Yoga + Meditation
Yoga is like the natural preparation for meditation. It prepares the body and the mind for stillness and makes me feel very relaxed. Yoga definetly helps me get into the right headspace for meditation.
Journaling
I try to write a page a day in a physical journal. It helps me to notice patterns and sort of just feels good.
Writing wins
I keep a physical notepad in my kitchen where I write down all the wins for the day. It can be anything from going on a walk to getting a positive performance review at work. I try to focus on the mundane. I think it makes more sense to emphasize good actions over good outcomes. We don’t have any control over outcomes.
Walks
Going on walks are great for letting me feel my emotions. I really enjoy just sort of wandering around my neigbhorhood. Even better with friends, but valuable alone as well.
Writing
You should be writing. Whether it’s journaling or just like random thoughts. Writing forces you to codify your ideas in ways that other practices do not.
Bad Rituals
Coffee
My obession with coffee has plagued from my youth. It causes me to make my dumb decisions and gives me a false euphoria. I try to limit my caffeine consumption but I find it very challenging.
Doomscrolling
Ok, so I enjoy Reddit and x.com. There’s something very enticing about spamming my brain with micro content, but it’s something I’m trying to remove from my life.
